As India’s all-party parliamentary delegation concluded its multi-nation tour in Spain, Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh K Patnaik highlighted strong expressions of solidarity from Spanish institutions in support of India’s fight against terrorism.
Ambassador Patnaik revealed that Spain’s Senate Foreign Affairs Committee offered unambiguous support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts. “They condemned terrorism and supported India’s actions,” he said, adding that several Spanish lawmakers even proposed sending a parliamentary delegation to India to strengthen cooperation and further discussions.
The visit included an emotional meeting with the Association of Victims of Terrorism, underlining shared experiences and mutual commitment to combating extremist violence.
The Indian delegation — comprising MPs Kanimozhi, Rajeev Rai, Brijesh Chowta, Prem Chand Gupta, Ashok Kumar Mittal, and former diplomats Manjeev S Puri and Jawed Ashraf — visited Russia, Latvia, Slovenia, Greece, and Spain to brief international stakeholders on the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack and India’s broader struggle against cross-border terrorism.
On Monday, the delegation met Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, who reaffirmed Spain’s unwavering support. “Terrorism will never prevail, and Spain stands firmly with India,” the Indian Embassy in Spain posted on X, quoting the minister.
AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal and RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta both emphasized that Spanish leaders, trade representatives, and civil society uniformly condemned terrorism in all forms and expressed readiness to support India on international platforms.
“We found consistent support across all five countries we visited—governments, intellectuals, and civil society alike,” said Gupta, reinforcing the impact of the outreach initiative.
The Spain-India Council expressed strong interest in expanding long-term relations with India. Kanimozhi noted that the visit helped highlight both India’s resilience in the face of terrorism and the shared values it holds with Spain and other nations visited.
The delegation also met Vice President Antonio Gutierrez Limones of the Spanish Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, reinforcing India’s message on the urgent need to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure.
This diplomatic mission follows Operation Sindoor, a recent targeted military campaign launched on May 7, which neutralized over 100 terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The delegation’s engagements across Europe aimed to build international consensus and reinforce India’s position as a resolute actor against terrorism, advocating for a global response to cross-border threats.
